Temecula to Move Forward on Bike Master Plan

Cycling, Temecula, Bike Master Plan

Temecula Trails subcommittee members Mayor Mike Naggar and Councilman Chuck Washington have announced that the city is seeking qualified consultants to update Temecula’s Multi-Use Trails and Bikeways Master Plan.

“The vision is to build on the city’s trail network by enhancing our existing trails and bikeways, and to create new links where there are missing segments. We plan to make the City’s trail system a fantastic amenity for residents and families to safely ride their bicycle, walk, or even horseback in some areas, on trails and bike lanes that will connect throughout the city,” Mayor Naggar said.

The Request for Proposal calls for a two-phased approach by the selected consultant.

Phase I will focus on public outreach workshops and citizen input and Phase II will update the new Multi-Use Trails and Bikeways Master Plan.

Councilman Washington said, “This is a top priority of the city’s overall Quality of Life Master Plan. Temecula has great air quality with a climate that allows us to be outdoors nearly year-round so it makes sense to ensure the city’s trails and bike lanes are functional and more enjoyable to our citizens.”

Among the plan elements, the selected consultant will prioritize and identify innovative strategies to complete the city-wide bike lane and trail connections, provide solutions for safe circulation at problematic intersections and thoroughfares, and include an analysis associated with Safe Routes to School.

The consultant will also identify trail heads and propose a sign plan, bike racks and storage areas. An estimated cost for construction will ultimately be factored into the Temecula’s five-year Capital Improvements Program.

The deadline to respond to the City’s Request for Proposal is March 11, 2013.

Qualified consultants can register online at http://www.cityoftemecula.org/Temecula/Government/Finance/AP/Purchasing.htm.
