This just in, Temecula has been awarded Bronze in the Bicycle Friendly Communities Program from the League of American Cyclists.
It's the first time the city has made the list, which gives us national recognition. It's a first step -- Bronze is a start, a place to grow and develop our infrastructure, safety programs, and bicycle culture to Silver, Gold and Platinum.
And it's the first time I've seen a new category, started this year, something called "Beyond Platinum." Not sure what is involved to get that award (flying bicycles?), but we can dream, can't we?

Congratulations to the city, to Mayor Mike Naggar and Councilmember Chuck Washington on the transporation subcommittee who have worked on improving cycling in Temecula for more than a year (they are friends to cyclists in Temecula), to city planner Matt Peters, who filled out an application that is about a foot high when it's printed out on paper.
I am pasting the details from the League website, to read more about what it means to be a BFC, the commitment to make improvements each year. You can also read what other cities are doing.
