Six Win 'Americanism' Awards

The Temecula Valley Elks honored the children for their essays about the Pledge of Allegiance.


Six Temecula children won awards for their essays about the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Temecula Valley Elks gave out six "Americanism" awards for the best essays, titled "Why I Am Proud to Pledge Allegiance to Our Flag."

The winners got dinner for their families and teachers courtesy of the Elks.

The winners were divided into two categories: one for K-6 and the other for grades seven and eight.

First place for the first category was Emily Rose, a sixth grader from . She got a $100 savings bond.

Second place was Elijah Fang, a fifth grader from . He got a $75 savings bond.

Third place was Megan Sweeny, a fifth grader from . She won a $50 savings bond.

For the second category, first place went to Alexa Amatulli, an eighth grader from , who got a $100 savings bond.

Second place was Talia Basch, an eighth grader from , who got a $75 savings bond.

Third place went to Kyra Storkersen, another eighth grader from , who got a $50 savings bond.
