Chaparral Students Demonstrate Power Of 'We The People'

Chaparral High School in Temecula won the Dec. 18 "We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution Mock Congressional Hearing Competition" at Grossmont College.

Congratulations to Jeff Kingsberg’s Advanced Placement Government and Politics class from Chaparral High School as they outscored three San Diego area teams in winning the We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution Mock Congressional Hearing Competition at Grossmont College in El Cajon on Dec. 18.  

Six student teams prepared four-minute statements and then responded to questions from judges on themes ranging from “What are the Historical and Philosophical Foundations of the American Political System?” to “What Challenges Might American Democracy Face in the Twenty-First Century?"  

Student teams were scored on providing supporting evidence, including constitutional application and balanced participation.

This year's event marks Chaparral’s fifth regional championship since 2006 and the team now qualifies for the California State Finals in Bakersfield on February 7-8.
