The Elks National Foundation will award 500 scholarships nationally to the highest academically rated boys and girls in the 2012-2013 competition and Temecula is in the mix.
Applications for the Elks National Foundation’s 2012-13 “Most Valuable Student” contest are available for Temecula and Murrieta high schools here.

Applications for the 2012-2013 scholarship competition must be submitted to the Temecula Valley Elks Scholarship Committee by Dec. 7, 2012.
The Elks National Foundation will award 500 scholarships nationally to the highest academically rated boys and girls in the 2012-2013 competition:
Two First-Place Awards of $60,000 - $15,000 per year for four years;
Two Second-Place Awards of $40,000 - $10,000 per year for four years;
Two Third-Place Awards of $20,000 - $5,000 per year for four years;
Two Fourth-Place Awards of $16,000 - $4,000 per year for four years;
Two Fifth- Place Awards of $12,000 - $3,000 per year for four years;
Two Sixth-Place Awards of $10,000 - $2,500 per year for four years;
Four Seventh-Place Awards of $8,000 - $2,000 per year for four years and;
482 Runner-up Awards of $4,000 - $1,000 a year for four years.
Any high school senior who is a U.S. citizen is eligible to apply.
Applicants will be judged on financial need, leadership, and scholarship.
Also available, from the California-Hawaii Elks Association, are Vocational Grants for students who plan to pursue an eligible vocational or technical course, above and supplemental to high school or preparatory school level.
A high school diploma or equivalent is not required but Vocational award applicants must reside within the jurisdiction of the California-Hawaii Elks Association and be U.S. citizens.
Graduating high school seniors may apply; however this program is not limited to high school students. it is also open to older prospective students who require training or retraining to compete in the workplace.
This grant may be used for tuition and fees, room and board -- if living on campus -- and books and supplies.
It may be used only for the usual and required costs of an applicant’s planned course of study.
