Mesa’s Khalil Sharpe Sets All-Time Career Reception Record

Murrieta Mesa's Khalil Sharpe is now the Inland Empire’s Top All-Time Career Receiver.

With his first catch of the game Friday night against the Broncos, Murrieta Mesa’s Khalil Sharpe claimed the Inland Empire’s record with 180 career receptions. The Ram senior caught two more passes extending the record to 182 that night.

In records painstakingly compiled by Eric-Paul Johnson of The Press-Enterprise, it was confirmed that Sharpe is the new reception king for the Inland Empire. The record includes all schools in Riverside and San Bernardino counties.

"This is truly and amazing accomplishment for him," said Murrieta Mesa Head Coach Justin Schaeffer. "We are so proud of him.”

Sharpe had 56 catches as a sophomore, 59 as a junior and 67 this year with one game left to play.

"To think that this journey into the record books started for him as a sophomore on a first year varsity team without a senior class—this is truly and amazing accomplishment," Schaeffer said.

Coach Schaeffer also took time to announce Friday’s players of the game against Vista Murrieta. Senior Defensive lineman Jess Ayala who had six tackles, two for losses and a fumble recovery.

Also recognized was Junior defensive lineman Wesley Scott, who was also credited with six tackles, two for losses.

Congratulations to Khalil Sharpe and his Mesa Ram teammates for their accomplishments.
