More School Days Scheduled Next Year

Seven furlough days will be restored and five days will go back on the school's calendar, officials say.

The coming school year will have more days than expected depending on how trustees vote later this month.

Seven furlough days would be restored and five days would be added to the class schedule if the board approves an agreement between the district and two employee unions, the Californian newspaper reported today.

The board was scheduled to vote on it at a July 26 meeting.

The unions agreed to take seven furlough days based on a projected state budget, which included drastic cuts. The district will get more money from the state than expected, so the furlough days should be restored under the agreement, the newspaper reported.

The furlough days would have saved the district $5.9 million, it was reported.
