Public to Blow Bubbles to Protest School Cuts

Temecula officials proposed laying off more than 100 teachers due to the state budget cutbacks.

 

The public was invited to join teachers to blow bubbles in protest of state-level education cuts.

The event is scheduled for Thursday at locations throughout the state, said Crystal Brown, a co-organizer of the event.

"In protest to these and other devastating cuts, students, parents and community leaders will be blowing bubbles in rallies throughout the state to tell our leaders, don’t blow it. You have the power to fund education now," Brown said in an emailed announcement.

The Temecula school district last month issued 120 pink slips in preparation for cuts the state is expected to make.

The protest, organized by Educate Our State, a volunteer school advocate group, is calling the demonstration, "This Budget Blows."

"We are fed up with the state of education in California and the inability of the legislature to provide the leadership to support our schools,” said Kalimah Salahuddin, an Educate Our State board member.
