Not only are they going to pack the classes 30-1, but now lets get rid of the people who helpout as well, right when we are going to need them the most. Enough! I say we start trimming at the administrative level, one salary is about $100,000 so we would only have to get rid of 2.

Cutting more classroom support? Instructional aids are funded through ferderal money (special ed), not the general state fund that teachers, etc.. The cuts need to come from the fat at the top, where the salary's are over $100,00 per year! Not the poor aids that make anywhere from appx. $900/mo. for a 3.5hr. or appx. $1600-$1900/mo. for a 6hr, the ones who are suffering are the kids who have had there aids pulled and no longer have the support they need to stay safe or to succeed to the best they would be able to.

Moronic! 15 people unemployed or 2 administrators? School district is top heavy. Cut where it won't affect the kids even more!! Eliminate IA's and you are putting the kids in a more restricted environment because there will be no one to take them to Gen Ed when they are capable to be there with support. Foolish...

I fully agree with Sandy this is enough. Trim at the top. The quality of education is suffering. Basics here. For every action there's a re-action. It's moves like this that will have dire consequences down the road. We all need to write Governor Brown to make cuts at the State level School Board. He is stealing our local tax monies

Great article on the burden illegal immigration is having on our budget! http://www.fairus.org/publications/breaking-the-piggy-bank-how-illegal-immigration-is-sending-schools-into-the-red-updated-2005

Administrators help keep your kids safe at school. There are over eight hundred teenagers at most middle schools with minimal supervision. Administrators not only go into classrooms to observe teachers, they keep kids safe going from class to class, at lunch and nutrition breaks, arrival and departure from buses and arriving and departing from school. They make sure your kids are in the correct classes, have food in their bellies and get any special services that they may need. Administrators are responsible for teacher training and performance and answer not only to parents and teachers, but also the district office and board members. They do loads of paperwork, usually at home because they are busy taking care of your children during the work day. They write up applications for grants so that there schools can obtain money for programs that benefit your children. They meet with your schools PTA to help your PTA earn money for programs to benefit hoy children. Your children need these over-worked, highly-educated and thoughtful professionals on their campuses. When you are appealing to districts to let go of these individuals -- you should be very careful of what you wish for.

The schools are like any other City,State or just a Goverment job. there is way to many people doing a job that is not needed. Lynn when I read your line about making sure the kids have ( food, in their classes, special services ) this may come as a shock but this is the job of the parent. We pay taxes so our kids have teachers not a day care. i would like to take the money that they pay an admin person and pay a real good teacher. Let's worry about the (kids that want to learn for once )and let the parents of the other ones step up and take care of their own kids. It is not the Job of the School to do (DAY CARE.)
Lynn May 01, 2012 at 10:59 PM
I understand a lot of this is the job of a parent, but guess what? That job is not getting done. Unless you can fix THAT problem Ned, the job falls to others. Schools now have to take care of children in many ways that they have never had to before AND they have educate them too. You can't just fire people all willy-nilly before you solve on those major social problems that you're complaining about.

When referring to the administration at least for me I am talking about the overpaid, overstaffed District office! We all know and want our schools well staffed with quality teachers and support staff. We don't need to have so many people working at the District office who never step foot into a classroom.
jill May 01, 2012 at 11:27 PM
Hey Patch. This article may panic permanent instructional assistants. From what I heard these are categorical positions...
Lynn May 02, 2012 at 12:03 AM
I agree cap1.
Harry May 02, 2012 at 12:37 AM
What the heck is the difference between a Categorical position and a Permanent Instructional Assistant position?
Jane May 02, 2012 at 12:50 AM
Lyn.... I work for the school district and for most of the things you mentioned, its the people that are out watching the kids ie: Teachers, Aides, noon duties, lunch ladies, campus supervisors that do the majority of what you have mentioned. We are out in the trenches with these kids...while the "Administrator" is in their office. No one is saying get rid of Principals. Why would it be better to lay off those people....then the ones at the top???
TemecuMom May 02, 2012 at 01:25 AM
I think most (if not all) of the previous posts were referring to DO administrators, not site administrators. Site admin has already been cut in years past; no more Asst. Principals at the Elementary level. Also, as Jane pointed out, many of the duties Lynn listed are delegated to support staff.
jill May 02, 2012 at 01:41 AM
They are positions that are year to year, with Title 1 funds. From the board meeting notes.."programs provide supplemental funding to support additional programs and services for sites who qualify for funding. The majority of the funding is allocated for “direct” services which are utilized with the students in the classroom. This funding changes from year to year, depending on the number of students who qualify at each individual school. The decrease in funding for the 2012 – 2013 school year will result in the reduction of nine (9) Education Assistant positions, four (4) English Learner Education Assistant positions, and two (2) Educational Interpreter Aides".
Lynn May 02, 2012 at 02:07 AM
Actually, I don't what district you are talking about, but I personally know a couple of principals who are actually "in the trenches" doing everything that I had listed in previous post. I don't think that the general population realizes what teachers and principals are responsible for. These are overwhelming jobs. I'm sorry you work at school with an administrator who is not engaged with staff and students on your campus :(

I agree! It si about freaking time that all this so called "wastefull spending" end. The teachers are understaffed, under paid for what we expect them to do, and overpaid for thier retirement and medical. Reform needs to be made and made now. One simple solution is to take away the elected officals money from thier paychecks, that will send a clear and precise mesaage that they are elected officals and work for us. They don't get paid till they produce, period! There are two ways to have people comply with what needs to be done. One is to inflict severe amounts of pain. The other is to take thier money from them till they listen, just like a child. So if we the people stand up together, form a petition, get the word out, get the votes and make some changes. Our elected official will get the message or they don't get paid.

I have left numerous comments on here all leading to the same direction and focus. However us as humans rarely make decisions based on logic, almost always on emotions. The amount of logic a person needs to make logical decisions is rather small. So lets say that the amount of logic a person needs can fit on the end of a straight pin. However that logic needs to penetrate into that person so they can use the power of emotion and the wisdom of logic at the same time. So that straight pin with all that logic is thrown at them. Does it penetrate? of course not, it simply bounces off becuase there is nothing to drive that logic home. So once again the straight pin with all that logic is thrown at them excpet this time it is attached to the end of a broom stick. Will the needed amount of logic penetrate? Yes it will. However it seems that most elected officals need to have that pin attached to a telephone pole!
Ned May 02, 2012 at 03:25 AM
Lynn you are saying just what i mean. Have CPS deal with parents that do not do their jobs as parents and let the school teach. schools are not a day care center. You have to stop coming to the people for more taxes. would you believe that more then .50% of each dollar goes for pay and benefits and not school needs. maybe we should look at what Wisconsin did. They have lots of money now. You know what they did?
S.S.J May 02, 2012 at 04:04 AM
In my original post, I was referring to the district office.
Golden State May 09, 2012 at 02:27 PM
Our district office administration only accounts for 3% of the entire district budget. That is the lowest percentage for any school district around. Most are about 6-7% of entire budget. There are not many fat cats to cut. Most of them in T.V.U.S.D. have already taken big pay cuts. The school board is going to take a big pay cut this year too.
Ned May 11, 2012 at 08:50 PM
Golden State The gold is gone. The benefits are all gone the tax payer wants the government people to pay thier way. just like we all do. the ones before you got the benefits ask them to put back a little not ask us for more. Sorry I have no more money to give.
