School Gets Bond to Pay for Theater

Despite the new funding source, the full cost of the new $15 million facility is still out of reach.

Temecula Valley High School might get a new theater, depending on the decision of the school board.

The Temecula Valley Unified School District board of trustees is set to discuss the topic at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the district’s headquarters.

Earlier this year, the district found a revenue source, called a “qualified school construction bond,” which will pay for part of the schools “interest cost” on the $15 million project, according to Lori Ordway-Peck, the assistant superintendant of business services.

In order to sell the bonds, the district self-imposed three conditions, Ordway-Peck wrote in a report. First, the district put the project out to bid to get a realistic idea of the cost. Second, it would have to assemble a team of financial experts to advise the district on how to proceed. Third, it insisted on conducting a survey to test how the bonds might be received.
