Summer 5K Races Will Benefit Chaparral High School Cross Country

The 5K races will be held at Vail Lake. Runners from all area high schools have been invited. Adults and children 10 and older are welcome to participate, too!

News release from Chaparral High School Cross Country Parent Support Group:

June 20, 2013 – TEMECULA, CA – To help raise money for its program and to keep student athletes in shape over the summer, the Chaparral High School Cross Country Parent Support Group (PSG) is hosting a series of three 5K runs at Vail Lake Resort. The first two races are scheduled for July 27 and August 3, respectively, and will be informal events, with no official numbers or times kept. They will culminate in a competitive 5k on Saturday, August 10, with medals for the top five finishers in each age division.

On-site registration opens at 7 AM for all events. A 5K run for ages 10 and older is scheduled for 8 AM, with later times to be announced for additional divisions. Middle school (ages 10+) and high school students (ages13-17) as well as adults (18+) are encouraged to participate. Registration runs from $5-$15, and early-bird discounts are available. “We would like to see a friendly competition among our local schools, and we’ve invited Temecula Valley, Great Oak, Vista Murrieta, Murrieta Mesa, Murrieta Valley, Paloma Valley, Linfield, Hemet and Fallbrook high schools to join us,” Sandra Padgett, one of the race organizers, said. “The public is welcome to come out, run with our athletes, and enjoy beautiful Vail Lake Resort,” she added.

Runners are encouraged to bring water with them. While supplies last, water, Gatorade, and other refreshments, as well as souvenir T-shirts, will be sold. Proceeds will support CHS Cross Country Programs.
