Summer Enrichment Classes Open

Registration is available for classes to keep Temecula students active during the summer break.

The Temecula Valley Foundation for Excellence in Education, in partnership with the City of Temecula, has opened registration for its third year of summer school classes.

Thanks to a joint venture with the City, families now have the convenient option to register students in grades 9-12 for enrichment classes online and pay with a credit card.

Among the 12 summer classes offered are Algebra II, geometry, ceramics, geography, health, pre-AP/IB chemistry, Pre-IB physics, and Spanish I and II. Geography and health classes are among the graduation requirements for all students in the . Online registration closes June 4.

The deadline for refunds is June 11. Classes will be held at area high schools beginning in June.

“We are excited to work with the City and to offer parents the convenience of an easy, secure registration system,” said Kären B. Locklin, the foundation's president. “As a nonprofit, volunteer organization, we operate as frugally as we can to ensure that dollars we raise are returned to the classroom to benefit students and teachers in our district. Online registration for summer enrichment classes eliminates the hassle of taking time to physically register students, and it makes creating class schedules, which was done manually for the past two years, much easier. This is just one more example of how lucky we are to have the support of a strong team of civic, community, and school district leaders.”

Foundation-sponsored summer enrichment classes are listed on its website and on the City of Temecula's Community Services Department web page.

To finalize student registration and make a payment, families will need to create an account with the City of Temecula's online registration system by clicking here.

Those who have used the online registration system previously to sign up for city-sponsored classes and activities may use the same account log-in for foundation-sponsored classes.

To view and register for a class, participants will log on, select "Search for Classes," and type the corresponding activity number into the box. The maximum number of students per class and class fees vary depending on subject.

There will be no physical or on-site registration available until online registration closes on June 4 and only if seats remain. Interested families are asked to check the registration website after June 4 to find out whether the foundation will hold one or more on-site summer school registration dates.

Enrichment classes should not be confused with TVUSD high school credit recovery or remediation summer school courses. Information on those courses is available from each high school’s counseling department and on the TVUSD website.

It is so sad that our state has allowed this to happen. I remember a few years ago when the TVUSDRead More budget was horrible and teacher's were given less than $100.00 to budget their classrooms. Teachers are allowed to ask for donations but can no longer "require" students to bring in supplies for the classroom. PARENT'S need to step up to the plate!! After all these are OUR children and it's our responsibility to help them get the best education they can get. As long as people have the "entitlement" attitude with the public school system I can only see thing getting worse and not better. Please parents, help your teacher's. It does not take a fortune to pick up something extra for the classroom while buying your own child school supplies. Just my opinion!!

A skating rink with ice is more desirable. Temecula and Murrieta have lots of kids involved in iceRead More skating and hockey, but have to drive to Escondido or Riverside to participate.
