Temecula Schools Get 150 Computers

Computer labs will be spruced up thanks to General Dynamics NASSCO.

New computers are being donated to three Temecula schools thanks to a donation by a ship building company.

Barnett Elementary and Day Middle school each received 25 units and Chaparral High School received 100, said Melanie Norton of the Temecula Unified School District.

The computers were recently phased out at the General Dynamics NASSCO ship yard in San Diego as part of their computer refresh cycle.

The donation is significant in light of recent budget cuts, said Chaparral High School Co-Principal Gil Compton.

"This donation couldn’t have come at a better time. With financial resources so limited for schools, securing funds to keep out technology updated is a huge challenge," he said via an emailed announcement.

Compton credits Michael Bourgoyne, who has a child at Chaparral High School, for initiating the donation. Bourgoyne is a newtwork administrator at NASSCO and suggested the donation.

The ship builders welcomed the chance to help the students. “We truly appreciate the opportunity to partner with Chaparral High School, Day Middle School and Barnett Elementary School to improve their computer labs and in the development of their students," said Jim Gill, Director of Communications and Public Relations for General Dynamics NASSCO.
