TVUSD Parents Can Choose Where Their Kids Go To School

The district's Open Enrollment policy allows parents who live within TVUSD's boundaries to choose their child’s school of attendance by submitting an Intra-District transfer request.

The following is a news release from the Temecula Valley Unified School District:

The Temecula Valley Unified School District’s (TVUSD) Open Enrollment period, when new Intra-District Transfer requests can be submitted, will begin October 8 and conclude December 21, 2012.

The district's Open Enrollment policy allows parents who live within TVUSD's boundaries to choose their child’s school of attendance by submitting an Intra-District transfer request. Space availability is the major determining factor for approval.

All transfers received within the Open Enrollment period (Oct. 8-Dec. 21) will receive equal consideration regardless of the date they are turned in. Only transfers received during this time period will be considered as “Open Enrollment” transfers. If the number of transfers exceeds the number of spaces available at the school of choice, a lottery will be held.

Requests received after December 21, 2012 will be reviewed for consideration beginning June 10, 2013. While every effort will be made to provide an approval or denial before the first day of school, we cannot guarantee it. You are highly encouraged to submit your Intra-District transfer request prior to December 21, 2012 in order to properly plan for the upcoming school year.

Children presently on an Intra-district transfer will automatically be renewed to the current transfer school for the 2013/2014 school year, unless the transfer is canceled by the parent, or if space availability is an issue at the transfer site. In this case, notice of a space issue will be mailed prior to May 31, 2013.

Parents of promoting 5th and 8th graders wanting their child to attend a middle or high school other than their designated school of residence will need to apply for a new transfer. Promoting students matriculate to the next school based on their residence address, not the last school of attendance.

Intra-district Transfer Request forms may be obtained on the TVUSD website at: www.tvusd.k12.ca.us/cwa_intradistrict_transfers. You may also pick up a form at TVUSD’s Child Welfare & Attendance Office located at 31350 Rancho Vista Road, between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Completed forms must be returned to the Child Welfare and Attendance Office for final review. You may return forms in person or fax to (951) 676-6701. For questions regarding this process, please contact the Child Welfare and Attendance Office at (951) 506-7982.

It is so sad that our state has allowed this to happen. I remember a few years ago when the TVUSDRead More budget was horrible and teacher's were given less than $100.00 to budget their classrooms. Teachers are allowed to ask for donations but can no longer "require" students to bring in supplies for the classroom. PARENT'S need to step up to the plate!! After all these are OUR children and it's our responsibility to help them get the best education they can get. As long as people have the "entitlement" attitude with the public school system I can only see thing getting worse and not better. Please parents, help your teacher's. It does not take a fortune to pick up something extra for the classroom while buying your own child school supplies. Just my opinion!!

True also Thomas. My own daughters played hockey when we lived in San Diego so I think even thoughRead More they are all over 18 now they would still enjoy one or the other. Both would be nice :)

A skating rink with ice is more desirable. Temecula and Murrieta have lots of kids involved in iceRead More skating and hockey, but have to drive to Escondido or Riverside to participate.
