TVUSD Recognized For Cutting Greenhouse Gas Emissions

The Temecula Valley Unified School District (TVUSD) has been named an Energy Star Leader by the federal government’s ENERGY STAR Program. This recognition is presented to the most energy efficient school districts in the country. TVUSD was recognized for demonstrating environmental leadership by reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 10 percent.

“We are extremely pleased to receive this recognition from ENERGY STAR,” said Lori Ordway-Peck, assistant superintendent of Business Support Services. “Our energy conservation efforts are saving taxpayer dollars while also helping protect our local environment. Since our district began partnering with Cenergistic we have saved $2,634,000. We are proud that our energy saving success is being recognized by ENERGY STAR.”

The cost of utilities is the second largest budget line-item for TVUSD, according to a released statement from the district. To combat costs, the district entered into a partnership with Cenergistic in the fall of 2011.

In January 2012, led by TVUSD’s Energy Education Specialists Greg Page and Scott Krefft, the district embarked on an "aggressive" energy conservation and management program throughout all of its buildings and campuses. In addition to monitoring and analyzing the district’s energy use, Page and Krefft send regular emails updating staff on the district’s conservation efforts and reminding them to completely shut down their electronics before long weekends and breaks, the statement continued.

"We are continually looking for ways to help reduce energy costs through conservation or efficiency," Krefft said.

"It is our goal to eliminate energy waste and save dollars while creating a climate of conservation that ensures sustainable savings and environmental awareness," Page said.  --Contributed content.
