Vail Ranch Middle School students are rallying for one their own and are hoping local residents and business owners will chip in.
Adam Scholl, an eighth-grader at the school, was recently diagnosed with Stage lV Hodgkin's lymphoma and has been undergoing extensive chemotherapy treatments.
According to Temecula Valley Unified School District spokeswoman Melanie Norton, Adam's medical costs are rapidly climbing and are now over $90,000.
The school and its students are reaching out to the community in hopes of raising funds to assist Adam’s family with the bills. They are designating Friday, Nov. 8, as “Roll with Scholl Day."
Volunteers will collect donations for the Scholl family at the school campus. Donations can be dropped off in front of the school, in the parking lot directly in front of the school's office, or at the gate along Camino Piedra Rojo/Butterfield Stage, according to Norton.
Donations can be in the form of: cash, gift cards for basics like gasoline and food, or checks made payable to Angie Schieck, Norton said.
While this Friday will be the main collection day, community members can drop off donations at any time at the school's front office located at 33340 Camino Piedra Rojo.
"Hodgkin's lymphoma — formerly known as Hodgkin's disease — is a cancer of the lymphatic system, which is part of your immune system," according to Mayo Clinic staffers. "[Stage lV] is the most advanced stage of Hodgkin's lymphoma. Cancer cells are in several portions of one or more organs and tissues. Stage IV Hodgkin's lymphoma affects not only the lymph nodes but also other parts of your body, such as the liver, lungs or bones."
