Chaparral HS To Host CIF Girls Water Polo Wild-Card Game

The Pumas will play Camarillo Tuesday in the Division 3 CIF Girls Water Polo Playoffs.

Chaparral High may be playing in a wild-card game, but the Pumas dodged a five-hour drive with a home game.

The Pumas, who finished third in the Southwestern League, will host Camarillo Tuesday at 5 p.m. The winner will have to travel, however, as they will visit No. 3 seed Arroyo Grande High Wednesday at 5 p.m. Arroyo Grande is the champion of the PAC 7 League.

The CIF Girls Water Polo playoffs begin Tuesday with wild-card games. First round games in Division 3 are Wednesday at 5 p.m.  Winners advance to the second round on Friday. The CIF Finals are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Aquatics Center in Irvine.

The top four seeds in the division are St. Lucy’s, Murrieta Valley, Arroyo Grande and South Pasadena.

A pair of teams from opposite ends of the Inland Empire will likely clash for the CIF Division 3 Girls Water Polo title, if the pairings announced Sunday hold true to form.

St. Lucy’s, the No. 1 seed, will likely meet second-seeded Murrieta Valley in a splash-down, drag-out battle for the Division 3 crown.

And what girl doesn’t love a crown?

St. Lucy’s, the Sierra League champion, will wait until Tuesday night to find out its first-round opponent. The Regents, a perfect 5-0 in league, will host the winner of the wild-card game between Atascadero (PAC 7 League No. 3) vs. Hueneme (Pacific View League at-large). The Regents first-round game is Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Southwestern League champion Murrieta Valley also waits until Tuesday evening to find out who it will play in the first round. The Nighthawks will host the winner of the wild-card game with Oxnard (Pacific View League No. 2) and Righetti (PAC 7 No. 4). The Nighthawks first-round game is Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Vista Murrieta, the Southwestern League’s second-place team, travels to Whittier La Serna High in a first-round matchup Wednesday. The winner of this game will likely face top-seeded St. Lucy’s in the second round on Friday.
