Safety Town - New Location

Safety Town, sponsored by the Temecula Sunrise Rotary Club, has moved its location to Temecula Valley High School this year instead of Helen Hunt Jackson.   The high school is located at 31555 Rancho Vista Road in Temecula.  Because of the generous support of State Farm Insurance, the price has been reduced this year to only $25 per child, and no child will be turned away.

Because of the more central location and the reduced registration fee, applications have been pouring in, so that more classes have been added to accommodate everyone.  Parents are urged to apply while space is still available!   Safety Town is available to all surrounding cities, not just Temecula children.

One of the following sessions may be chosen:  The first week is June 18-21, with a morning session only from 9 am to noon.  The second week is June 25-28 from 9 to noon.  When registering, first and second choice times should be given.  To receive a flyer and registration form, please call registrar Marti Treckman at 951/698-6116, or email her at martimusician@verizon.net.  More information is also available on Facebook and online at www.temeculasunriserotary.com

Safety Town is a four-day interactive program designed to introduce and teach 5-to-8-year-old children various aspects of safety.  Since the registration fees do not begin to cover costs, it is the club’s contribution to the community to help make our children safe.

The curriculum focuses on lessons about life safety.  In conjunction with the Temecula Police and Fire Departments and other qualified teachers, the children are taught about safety principles and then placed in

staged situations involving stranger safety, street safety, fire safety, bike safety and water safety.   Other safety topics will be poison and drug prevention, emergency 9-1-1, animal and gun safety, and disaster preparedness.

This is the 10th year this popular program has been offered in the Temecula Valley.   A nationally recognized program that began in Mansfield, OH in 1937, it is a safe and interesting learning environment that is set up as a little town with buildings, pedal cars and street lights, simulating an actual town.

“Of all the projects Temecula Sunrise Rotary has for the youth in our community, Safety Town is easily the most important and the most rewarding,” says Temecula Sunrise Rotary President Jimmy Hsieh.  “We are just finishing our 7th annual Literacy program at Temecula Elementary School and have added Vail Elementary this year, we sponsored six middle school and six high school students to Rotary leadership camps, we are giving $8,000 in scholarships to local graduating seniors, and we always have prize-winning Rotary Music Competition winners, just to name a few ways we support our local youth.  But our club is most proud of our many years of presenting Safety Town.  This year’s event definitely is going to be the best yet.”
