Local Cheer Squad Takes Home Top Honors in National Competition

Some local young women and men who make it a sport to cheer others on, deserve some cheering of their own.

That's because the Murrieta-based Intensity All Stars' 'Lithium' team recently took home first place in their division at the National Cheerleaders Association All-Star Nationals in Dallas.

The team has 31 athletes and trains in Murrieta, but has members from Temecula, Lake Elsinore, Menifee, Escondido and Poway, team representatives tell Patch.

Those athletes, who range in age from 12 to 18-years-old, prepared for the March 1 and 2 event by regularly training two days a week, for two hours at a time, and sometimes more.

"As a gym owner, I could not be more proud of what this team (Lithium) has accomplished in such a short amount of time," gym owner Stephanie Smith said.  "This is only their second time attending NCA Nationals...and they won their division (Large Senior 4.2)"

The team competed against seven other teams once they got to the national level.
