Lucky Seven for Temecula Schools in CIF Boys, Girls Soccer Playoffs

Chaparral, Great Oak and Linfied send boys and girls teams to CIF, Temecula Valley girls also advance to soccer playoffs.

The state of local high school soccer is in great shape, as seven teams – including the boys and girls teams from Chaparral, Great Oak and Linfield Christian – qualified for the CIF playoffs. Temecula Valley’s girls team also advanced to the post-season, as CIF announced its playoff pairings Monday.

On the boys side, Great Oak, champions of the Southwestern League, will play host to Fullerton in a Division 2 first-round game on Friday at 3 PM. A victory will pit Charter Oak against either Coachella Valley or Riverside La Sierra in the second round on Feb. 23.

Chaparral, runners up in the Southwestern League, starts out on the road with a first round match against San Juan Hills High from San Juan Capistrano. The winner will most likely face Corona Santiago, the division’s No. 2 seed, in the second round.

Great Oak’s girls team, which finished first in the Southwestern League, has a home game against Glendora in the first round of Division 2 play on Thursday. A victory would put the Wolfpack into the second round on Feb. 22 against either Fullerton Sunny Hills or Corona.

Temecula Valley earned an at-large berth from the Southwestern League and as such will have to win a wild-card game Tuesday at Long Beach Millikan to advance to the first round. A win would earn the Golden Bears a trip to No. 2-seeded Rancho Cucamonga Los Osos on Thursday.

Linfield Christian’s girls, who qualified for the playoffs in Division 5, also have to play a wild-card game Tuesday. The Lions, the No. 3 team from the Ambassador League, will play host to Colton, which earned an at-large berth from the San Andreas League.
