March Madness is more than a marketing tool or catchphrase for former Temecula Great Oak High basketball All-American LaBradford Franklin. If he and his San Diego State teammates get on a roll, it’s how he’ll spend the rest of the month – in the middle of the madness that is the NCAA Tournament.

Franklin, a freshman with the Aztecs, scored no points in two minutes during a 68-50 win over Northern Colorado today in a first-round West Regional matchup at the McKale Center in Tuscon, Ariz. The second-ranked Aztecs were on TNT today at 1:40 p.m. The winner will play again Saturday, facing the winner of the Temple-Penn State game.

A four-year starter at point guard for the Wolfpack, the 6-foot-2 Bradford averaged 17.6 points, five assists and two steals per game as a senior.

He was a McDonald’s All-American and ESPN.com gave him the highest grade of “immediate impact player that demonstrates rare abilities and has the potential to start as a freshman for a national, top 25 program.”

Bradford has played in 14 games for the Aztecs this season and could see action in the tournament.

He chose San Diego State over Gonzaga, Marquette, UCLA, Arizona State and Washington State.
