Temecula Baseball, Softball Teams Head to CIF Playoffs

All area high schools are represented in the CIF baseball and softball playoffs, which begin with wild-card games Tuesday.

Temecula area high schools will make their mark throughout the CIF playoffs, led by Great Oak High's baseball team.

The Wolfpack will face Junipero Serra High Friday at Junipero Serra of Gardena in a CIF Division 1 first round game of the 2011 CIF Southern Section Baseball Championships.

Pairings for all divisions in softball and baseball were announced Monday afternoon at the CIF-Southern Section offices in Los Alamitos.

Wild card games begin Tuesday, with first round games starting Friday. Teams playing in wild card games are competing for a spot in first round action.

In all, 289 teams qualified for the seven divisional single-elimination baseball tournaments. For softball, 284 teams spanning seven divisions made it to the playoffs.

The Wolfpack (18-8) are the second-place team in the Southwestern League, while Junipero Serra (23-4) finished second in the Trinity League. Edison High of Huntington Beach is the top seeded team in Division 1 baseball.

Chaparral High School will play in Tuesday’s wild card game against Corona Santiago High at Corona Santiago.

The Pumas (13-12) received an at-large berth out of the Southwestern League, while Corona Santiago (19-8) is fourth-place in the Big VIII League.

Temecula Valley High School will also play in Tuesday’s wild card game against Corona Centennial High School at Temecula Valley. The Golden Bears (14-10) placed third in the Southwestern League, while Corona Centennial (18-10) received an at-large berth out of the Big VIII League.

The Division 1 baseball semifinals will be played Tuesday, May 31 at Blair Field. The finals are scheduled for Friday, June 3 at Dodger Stadium.

In the Division 5 baseball playoffs Linfield Christian High will host Mountain View High School in Tuesday’s wild card game. The Lions (17-7) are the third-place in the Ambassador League, while Mountain View (12-10) placed third in the Mission Valley League.

All Division 5 first round games will be played on Friday, with the CIF finals scheduled for Saturday, June 4 at UC Riverside.

In the CIF Division 7 baseball playoffs, Temecula Prep High will host Animo Leadership Charter Friday in a first round game at Temecula Prep High.

The Patriots (15-5-1) were the Majestic League champions, while Animo Charter (16-5) came in second in the Harbor League.

All Division 7 first round games will be played on Friday, with the CIF finals scheduled for Saturday, June 4 at UC Riverside.

In the CIF Division 1 softball playoffs Great Oak will host Corona High in a wild card game Tuesday at Great Oak High School.

All Division 1 first round games will be played on Thursday, with all CIF divisional finals scheduled for Friday and Saturday, June 3 and 4.

The Wolfpack (18-7) are the third-place team in the Southwestern League, while Corona (15-14) received an at-large berth out of the Big VIII League.

Temecula Valley will play in Tuesday’s wild card game at Marina High School.

The Golden Bears (17-9) received an at-large berth out of the Southwestern League, while Marina (18-6-1) was the third-place team in the Sunset League. Esperanza High School of Anaheim is the top seeded team in Division 1 softball.

In the Division 4 softball playoffs Linfield Christian will play in Tuesday’s wild card game against La Quinta High School at La Quinta.

The Lions (13-11) received an at-large berth out of the Ambassador League, while La Quinta was the third-place team in the Garden Grove League.  Aquinas High School of San Bernadino (23-1) is the top seeded team in Division 4 softball.

In the CIF Division 7 softball playoffs Temecula Prep will play Lee Vining High School Thursday in a first round matchup at Lee Vining.

The Patriots (10-10) placed second in the Majestic league, while Lee Vining (13-2) was the Hi-Lo League champion.  The top seed of the Division 7 softball championships is Pomona Catholic High School (19-5).
