Winchester’s Micha Grayson competed at the 2013 United States Bowling Congress Women’s Championships in Reno, Nev., and took home a win for Riverside County by capturing the Sapphire Singles title.
Grayson rolled games of 170, 163 and 175 for a 508 scratch series and received an additional 34 pins of handicap per game to finish with her winning total of 610.
The Sapphire Division is made up of bowlers with averages of 149 and below with handicap based on 100 percent of 150. Grayson entered the 2013 event with a 116 average.
The 2013 USBC Women’s Championships was held on 44 specially-constructed lanes inside the Reno-Sparks Convention Center. More than 4,300 teams and 21,000 bowlers traveled to The Biggest Little City in the World to compete in the world’s largest participatory sporting event for women.
The 81-day event marked the 94th running of the tournament. The 2013 event kicked off April 12 and ran daily from 7 a.m. until 1 a.m. until its completion July 1.
Due to the extensive nature of checking and verifying scores and averages, the final results only recently have become official.
