Temecula, CA-November 9, 2013—On Saturday night, Head Coach Mike Barney led his Pop Warner Jr. Midget team to a back-to-back Palomar Conference Championship with a 24-0 win against the Carlsbad Lancers. For the seventh time this season, the Golden Grizzlies were able to shut out the opposing team.

The two-time repeat champions have shown their dominance throughout the year by scoring 308 skilled, offensive points and only allowing the other teams to score a limited 37 points.   Head Offensive Coordinator, Tony Sanchez, contributes their decisive scoring ability to having multiple players, including his running backs, wide receivers and quarterback, which can agilely score on their opponents coupled with a strong offensive line.

The successful record of the team is dependent on the fierce defense led by Head Defensive Coordinator, Jeff Barney.  “The effectiveness of the defense is due to the strong sense of team awareness and players’ understanding of their unique roles on the defense”, stated Coach Jeff Barney.  The Golden Grizzlies have a defensive line that can penetrate the plays, linebackers that excel at reading theplays, and defensive backs that effectively cover the opposing receivers.

The Golden Grizzlies are heading to Regional Semi-Finals against the San Bernardino Ravens this Saturday as theirnext step towards the Pop Warner Super Bowl in December.  If the Golden Grizzlies are successful in their quest to reach Florida, they will be the first football team to do so in Temecula Valley Pop Warner History.  To ensure that each player has the opportunity to travel to Florida, the team is actively fundraising and looking for additional sponsors.  Any company or organization that would like their sponsorship and company’s name highlighted throughout Riverside, Orange and San Diego Counties during the upcoming games and subsequent media coverage is highly encouraged to e-mail “Team Mom” Amy Jackson at mommafootball@me.com.
