Barbeque to Help Fourth-Grade Leukemia Patient

The event will raise funds for a bone marrow transplant.

Bethany Monson, a fourth-grade student with leukemia, needs a bone marrow transplant.

So, her friends and neighbors planned a barbecue to help raise funds for the expensive operation, said Brian Thrush, a family friend.

The event is scheduled for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Vintage Hills Clubhouse, 32025 Meadows Parkway.

The food will include hot dogs, chips, drinks, dessert and a snow cone machine. A bounce house will be there for the kids, and a photo shoot will be raffled, according to Thrush.

Bethany's been through a lot, said Gina Thrush, a family friend. "She is an amazing little girl that has been in and out of the hospital for the last 4 years," Thrush said. "She has had more surgeries, treatments, blood drawn, side effects, medicine than you and I could ever imagine."
