School Raises $8,100 Selling Soup

The "Empty Bowls" event gave attendees free soup and a ceramic bowl crafted by Temecula students.

Students raised $8,100 to feed the needy by selling soup – and their hand-crafted bowls.

The “Empty Bowls Temecula” event happened Friday in in its mini-gym.

Attendees made a $10 and got a bowl of soup in a bowl a ceramic student made. They got to keep the bowls.

The money went to the Temecula Murrieta Rescue Mission, a nonprofit organization whose goal is to help the needy.

Last year was the inaugural event, and it raised $7,000, said Corynne Randel, the event’s spokesperson.

Students made 1,000 bowls for the event, and local restaurants donated the soup.
