Relay March to Benefit Sick Babies

The second-annual March for Babies Relay fundraising event is slated for noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The event aims to raise money to help families care for ailing infants.

Mayor Pro-Tem Chuck Washington and Councilmember Mike Naggar were expected to serve as grand marshals for the event, according to a city announcement.

"It's important to get the help young couples need to raise healthy babies," Washington said during a recent City Council meeting.

In the past, advertisements for the March of Dimes featured pictures of children with birth defects, Naggar recalled during the meeting. "This was telling," because it showed the problems the event aims to solve, Naggar said.

"We're trying to raise money to make sure all babies are born healthy," he said.
