For the past few years, two Temecula kids have decided to use their birthday parties as events to collect items for local charities.
Sarah and Abby Woo have used their parties to collect shoes and school supplies for the Sleep Train Foster Kid program and pet supplies for the Southwest Communities Animal Shelter/Animal Friends of the Valleys.
It started a few years when Abby heard a television ad for the Foster Kid program and thought it would be nice to help get shoes for the foster kids. She decided to have a party, but, instead of asking for presents for herself, she asked her friends to bring shoes for the foster kids. They collected over 20 pairs of shoes. During this year’s party, they collected five boxes of school supplies for the Sleep Train school supply drive.
Sarah had been planning to have a similar party and collect items for Southwest Communities Animal Shelter/Animal Friends of the Valleys for the past couple years, but her plans didn’t come to fruition until this month. The middle school student and her friends collected food, toys, treats and blankets for the cats and dogs of the shelter.
were proud of their kids’ events and the willingness of their friends to give to
those less fortunate. One of the parent’s who came to
pick up their daughter mentioned what a great event it was to promote giving to
those in need, and that they will try to have a similar event for
the child’s next birthday. --Don Woo
