Martin Luther King Jr. Remembrance Event Slated in Temecula

The event on Wednesday at Temecula Valley Museum will close with a living history performance by Saladin Florence as Dr. King giving the "I Have a Dream" speech.

TEMECULA, CA - On Aug. 28, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech at the culmination of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. To celebrate this inspiring and influential moment on its 50th anniversary, join us at the Temecula Valley Museum for a special program featuring actors E.P. McKnight and Saladin Florence.

The program will feature a short skit from the play “I Question America” about famous civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer. The play, written by and featuring Ms. McKnight, reflects Ms. Hamer’s recollections, thoughts and introduces Mr. King’s journey and legacy. Ms. McKnight will then perform two dance tributes and perform a reading of her original poem entitled “The Drum Major.”

The evening will close with a living history performance by Saladin Florence as Dr. King giving the “I Have a Dream” speech. This is a rare opportunity to celebrate an important and historic time and event in our country’s history.

This event is in conjunction with our current exhibit “And Freedom For All”, a look at famed photojournalist Stanley Tretick’s LOOK magazine photographs depicting the March on Washington.

The performance is at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at the Temecula Valley Museum, 28314 Mercedes Street in Sam Hicks Monument Park, Old Town Temecula. Admission is $5. Seating is limited so please RSVP at 951- 694-6450.
