Take in Some Inspiring Art This Weekend in the Inland Empire

For a quiet respite from the stress of holiday shopping and preparation, consider a weekend visit to one or more of these five art museums in the Inland Empire.

The Inland Empire is home to a number of intriguing art museums, with collections ranging from regional and historical to world class and experimental.

Take in some art this weekend before the stress of holiday shopping begins. Here's a list of five:

Riverside Art Museum – The museum is housed in a historic former YWCA designed by noted architect Julia Morgan, who also designed the Hearst Castle. General admission is $5, and children 12 and under are free. A unique exhibit through Nov. 25 is the Baby Tattoo collective. 

Palm Springs Art Museum – This world-class museum boasts works by Marc Chagall, Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Donald Judd, Louise Bourgeois, Alexander Calder, Henry Moore, Robert Rauschenberg, Antony Gormley and Ansel Adams. There is a satellite location in Palm Desert. Both locations are open 10 a.m. to 5 pm. on Saturday and Sunday. General admission is $5, and children 12 and under are free.

29 Palms Art Gallery – This gallery featuring regional artists is located in a historic adobe built in 1936 for western author Tom J. Hopkins. The gallery is open on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. There is also a gift shop featuring Southwestern jewelry and gifts.

Pomona College Museum of Art – This museum in Claremont schedules changing "historical and contemporary exhibitions designed to complement the college's curricula and to expose students to as wide a variety of works of art as possible." It's open Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free.

Robert and Frances Fullerton Museum of Art – This museum on the Cal State San Bernardino campus focuses on ceramic art, both ancient and contemporary, with a particularly large collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts. It's open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, but closed Sunday. Admission is free; parking is $5.
