Mount fired 3 rounds from the Ak and hey landed short of the vehicle-more range time for him. AndRead More the story mentioned a "machine gun"- where was that.? An AK is not a machine gun, even if it has been altered to fire full auto. The author of the article needs to become a bit more technically educated.

Pujol Street is no longer the Pujol Street of years back. The area has cleaned up very well.

^^ Agreed. Checking out all these articles, everyone is talking crap on the area. DUI should be the primary traffic enforcement priority.
ChrisG July 16, 2014 at 02:44 pm
That's right Marvin. The problem is people think checkpoints are a good enforcement tool when thatRead More is not the case. The stats I've seen are abysmal compared to saturation and roving patrols. This problem shouldn't be muddled with PC crap. Let's get real stats published so localities can choose what is best to keep the most drunk drivers off the roads. Thanks.

How many new state prisons are under construction? How many additions are being built at existingRead More facilities? AB 109 is a stop gap measure. The state needs more capacity. When will more beds be available?
ChrisG July 8, 2014 at 06:08 am
@dave, I don't buy into that 20% deterrent stat. Nothing deters people from drinking and drivingRead More like reading about a bunch of people getting arrested for it. Checkpoints do not do that. Roving patrols however do. Everyone posting here is anti-DUI. The difference is how to better use that grant money. Checkpoints do not measure up compared with saturation patrols. Think about it.
Shannan Buffolino July 13, 2014 at 01:57 pm
I understand both sides here, but can I say how this does actually keep more drunk drivers off theRead More roads, and how this probably has saved more lives than we know. When they do these checkpoints, PEOPLE talk, social media, text, and I have even heard a dj stop music and say they heard there are a couple of checkpoints, advising to take a cab for $20 , rather than the many costs a DUI arrest will cost. So a lot will take a cab, or someone else drives, or they can even have a couple hours, drink water, maybe sober up sitting inside the casino until 5 am to avoid that checkpoint. So just because no one was arrested at the DUI checkpoints, it certainly stops and deters A lot of drunk people from driving. :)
Shannan Buffolino July 13, 2014 at 01:59 pm
And I agree also with Chris about the roving patrol.

I went up and saw the crash site from the Main Divide. It was not far below. While I'm not anRead More expert, it appeared (since it was reported the plane circled twice before crashing) the pilot may have been trying to crash land on a open graveled parking area but (possibly because of the wind?) over shot the parking area and hit a tree line which bordered the parking area. This tore the wing off and the fuselage dropped into a shallow gully next to the tree line. Pure speculation, but to me it looked like he tried. It's sad indeed, and my heart goes out to the families involved.

@patriot. You don't have to deport 10 to 15 million (or however many there really are) illegals.Read More Take the jobs away, take benefits away and most will go home on their own. The rest you deport as they are caught breaking other laws. Secure the border! This problem is not as hard to solve as people think.
Thresher300 July 10, 2014 at 09:02 am
Did anyone read about Eisenhower's plan back in the 50s? It seemed to have worked. Those laws areRead More still in the books. See Operation Wetback. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Wetback
Thresher300 July 10, 2014 at 09:07 am
Here's the operation in a nutshell: In 1949 the Border Patrol seized nearly 280,000 illegalRead More immigrants. By 1953, the numbers had grown to more than 865,000, and the U.S. government felt pressured to do something about the onslaught of immigration. What resulted was Operation Wetback, devised in 1954 under the supervision of new commissioner of the Immigration and Nationalization Service, Gen. Joseph Swing. Swing oversaw the Border patrol, and organized state and local officials along with the police. The object of his intense border enforcement were "illegal aliens," but common practice of Operation Wetback focused on Mexicans in general. The police swarmed through Mexican American barrios throughout the southeastern states. Some Mexicans, fearful of the potential violence of this militarization, fled back south across the border. In 1954, the agents discovered over 1 million illegal immigrants. In some cases, illegal immigrants were deported along with their American-born children, who were by law U.S. citizens. The agents used a wide brush in their criteria for interrogating potential aliens. They adopted the practice of stopping "Mexican-looking" citizens on the street and asking for identification. This practice incited and angered many U.S. citizens who were of Mexican American descent. Opponents in both the United States and Mexico complained of "police-state" methods, and Operation Wetback was abandoned. Sound familiar? Yes! This was done in Arizona, and it worked well, but really pissed off Obama.
